It was the most important cultural venue for many decades in Baja California Sur. It was planned as such in 1888 during the government of General José María Rangel, but the first stone for its construction was laid until 1906, on the occasion of the first centenary of the birth of Benemérito Don Benito Juárez, from whom the name was taken. However, its inauguration took place on September 15, 1910, within the framework of the celebrations of the centenary of national Independence.
