12 Things to do in Los Cabos

The Municipality of Los Cabos is located at the southern tip of the peninsula of Baja California, Mexico. Los Cabos belongs to the state of Baja California Sur, its main cities are Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The two cities are linked by a 20 mi/32 km coastal road, the Corredor turístico (Tourist Corridor).

Los Cabos has a wide range of activities and experiences for all tastes. In this article we will review just a few of them.

1. Go Whale watching

Baja California Sur is one of the best places in the world for whale lovers. Every year between mid-December and early April thousands of humpback, gray and other whales migrate from the arctic to the waters of Baja California Sur to breed and have their calves. During the season it is possible to see them even from the coast, but if you want to enjoy them from a shorter distance it is possible to hire a tour. 2. Visit The Arch and Lovers Beach

The Arch is the distinctive icon of Cabo San Lucas, it is a rock formation that rises from the sea at the tip of the Baja California Sur Peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. Also known as the “End of the Earth”, El Arco is the most popular tourist attraction and the central focus of countless photos of those who visit Los Cabos. 3. Explore Cabo Pulmo National Park

Located on the East Coast of the Baja California Sur Peninsula, two hours away from San José del Cabo, Cabo Pulmo is a Protected Natural Area designated a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO, one of the most important achievements of ocean conservation and the only hard coral reef area in the Gulf of California. 4. Explore Sierra de la Laguna

The Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve is an ecosystem that has a strong and direct influence on the water resources and the climate of the state of Baja California Sur, providing significant benefits to the main economic activities of this touristic region as well as to agriculture and livestock production.

The Sierra de la Laguna is a paradise for nature lovers. There are different activities available to visitors, including camping, hiking, cycling and horseback riding. This natural oasis in the middle of the desert, so called because of the mouth of the San José River, is where migratory birds come to spawn and others come to gather food to continue their journey. The variety of seeds and small fruits is what attracts them most.

10. Go Kayaking and Paddleboarding

One of the most natural ways to explore the waters of Los Cabos is kayaking & Padelboarging. There are tour operators that provide guided tours for this purpose. After a short instructional lesson given on the beach, you will paddle out to the Arch, past the sea lion colony, and around Land’s End into the Pacific. Tours combine kayaking and snorkeling for you to explore the beauty of the sea of Cortez from above and below.

Make sure to check the wind conditions before setting off, and remember to put on the proper sunscreen for the marine ecosystem. Tours are conducted early in the morning starting at 7:00 am and ending around 9:00 am, which allows you to avoid the continuous traffic of boats and the increase in wind speed. The Plaza Mijares located in the center is the social meeting point. In the surroundings of the plaza you will find art galleries of international level throughout the year. Between the months of November and June every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm the San Jose del Cabo Art Walk takes place where local and international artists present their work to visitors.
